Homeless salesmen and the unemployed

HOMELESS SALESMAN

I was reading an article "Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez expertly shuts down conservatives calling for boycott after learning she was a Girl Scout" and reading some of the comments:

Like this one: "My daughter is a new girl scout. She has learned to use a digital camera so far and has learned about different countries around the world. They've sold cookies, and I've watched her go from uncomfortable to confident in her sales pitch. They will use the money that they raise partly for a charity project (either something to help the homeless or something to collect books for area school libraries). The rest they will use for camping and horse back riding. My daughter is super excited to learn and has made some good friends in the program."

And this one: "The Girl Scouts also sell items in the fall. Then the cookies in the winter. My daughters enjoyed Girl Scouts for a while but it felt like the organizations real purpose was just to make the girls sell food items for them to make them money. The Girl Scout Troops themselves only get about .50 cents per box of cookies sold for their Troop".

Then, it dawned on me and a light bulb went off. Employers could hire homeless and the unemployed to sell some of their goods or the homeless could become self employed.

I remember when I was 16 years old I owned half interest in an ice cream trunk with my friend's parents. I bought the freezer and the stock and the parents owned the truck and we split the profits. A better deal for the parents, as I did all the driving and selling of the ice cream, soda and chips. But that is another story for another time. Live and learn.

But here is an idea I was thinking about. The homeless could be fronted the stock, but they would have to pay for it, after they sold the stock and then use their profits to buy their own stock, and from there every dollar they make is theirs to do as they please. If the stock is given to them, then it would be like getting something FREE.

But if they have to pay it back, they will feel they earn it, and it was not given to them. And after they pay back the stock funds, they are on their own from then on out. And if they don't take the opportunity, and run with it, they have no one to blame but themselves. And it could work for the unemployed too, as well.

However, and there is always a however. The city they work in my request or require that they have a business license. But they will be self-employed and working for themselves as an independant contractor and responsible for their own taxes, etc. They and can spend their money however they see fit. At least they will be working for themselves.

It's an idea I am working on right now and see what happens here in Klamath Falls, OR.

More ideas and details to come soon...
